In the Pléiades Neo image acquired near Astorga in the State of Paraná, mechanical mowers cut the sugar cane at ground level and then throw 30cm pieces into the buckets of the trucks.

Cultivated since the 17th century, the cultivation of sugar cane intensified in Brazil after the oil shocks of the 1970s increased the production of ethanol, the fuel most used today by Brazilian motorists. The largest producer of sugar intended for the food industry, Brazil is also the second world producer of ethanol after the USA.
