The construction of a rail link that will connect Belgrade’s central railway station and the airport is progressing on schedule and is due to be completed by the end of next year. “Construction on this railway line is progressing exceptionally well. We conducted a site visit, engaged with the workers, and thoroughly reviewed all the documentation essential for the successful implementation of a project of this magnitude. I am pleased to announce that all planned construction work is progressing according to schedule and will be completed within the contractual deadline – by the end of 2026”, Serbia’s Minister for Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Aleksandra Sofronijević, said. She added, “The rail line will enable a fifteen-minute journey from the airport to the city. I am confident that this will finally put an end to the issues we’ve faced at the airport – from unregulated taxi drivers to other disruptions – ensuring that passengers can reach Belgrade safely, quickly, and at a fixed, reliable price”.
The new 18.3-kilometre suburban rail line will link Belgrade Airport to both the city and new National Stadium complex where the 2027 specialised EXPO event will be held. Trains on the new rail line will run every half hour, and up to every fifteen minutes during peak commute times. Trains on the new track will reach speeds of 120 kilometres per hour. The new rail line will run with the following stops: Prokop (Central) – New Belgrade – Tošin bunar – Zemun – Altina – Zemun polje – Singidunum – Belgrade Airport – Surčin – National Stadium.
