A Delta flight operated by Endeavor Air crashed at Toronto Pearson Airport on its roof, resulting in no deaths but 18 injuries to those aboard.
Another CRJ has crashed in North America – this time, it was a Delta Air Lines flight at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).
Delta confirmed Flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air, was involved in a single-aircraft accident at around 2:15 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Officials Confirm No Deaths but 18 Injured in Crash
The Bombardier CRJ-900 involved in the flight departed from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) earlier in the day. Data from FlightAware suggests the flight was uneventful going into the landing at Toronto Pearson Airport. There were 80 souls aboard the aircraft: 76 passengers and four crew members. Although gusts of high winds were reported in the area, there is no definitive cause as to how the aircraft landed upside down.
According to CNN, the casualties included one child. Delta confirmed the injured passengers were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment. Toronto Pearson airport was closed for nearly three hours due to the accident.
Data from the Federal Aviation Administration shows the aircraft – tail number N932XJ – was manufactured in 2008, with an airworthiness certificate issued on the last day of 2009. The registered owner is Delta, but wholly owned subsidy Endeavor was operating the flight.
“The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport,” Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a statement. “I want to express my thanks to the many Delta and Endeavor team members and the first responders on site.”
The accident will be investigated by both Canadian and American officials. The National Transportation Safety Board is sending investigators to the airport to assist the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
This incident marks the second time a Bombardier CRJ was involved in a crash this year. On January 29, 2025, American Airlines Flight 5342 collided with a military helicopter on approach, killing everyone on both aircraft.
