Delta Offers $30,000 to Toronto Crash Survivors – FlyerTalk

Delta Air Lines will offer everyone aboard Flight 4819 $30,000 as a “good-faith gesture” as the investigation continues.

Delta Air Lines says they will offer everyone aboard Delta Flight 4819 a $30,000 payment that does not exclude them from any of their rights moving forward.

Bloomberg reports the offer is a “good-faith gesture” as the airline works with authorities to determine what went wrong.

New Video on Social Media Shows Flight Flipping Over Shortly After Landing

Delta’s offer comes after new video shared across social media shows the final moments of the flight as it came in to land at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). The Bombardier CRJ-900 was shown coming down to land, before appearing to bounce off the runway and turning over in a fireball.

Two days after the accident, Delta said in statement that all but one person has been released from local hospitals. CBS News reports the passengers suffered head and back injuries, anxiety, and nausea from contact with jet fuel.

In addition to the “good faith gesture” of cash, the airline says they are assisting customers with hotels, meals, transportation, and “any other personal needs” they may need as they recover from the accident. Baggage both in the cabin and checked will be returned to passengers, but Delta notes that the process could take “a matter of weeks.”

In comments to CBS News, president and CEO of Toronto Pearson Airport Deborah Flint praised the aircraft’s crew and ground personnel for their response to the incident, calling it a “textbook response” in the moments after the accident. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will be the lead agency on the investigation, with support from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, Mitsubishi, and Delta.
