Flash Sale: British Airways Offering 40% Bonus on Avios Purchases (July 16–23, 2025)

Buying points can reflect strategic value for those who do not have access to big international travel programmes via credit cards. Points can power luxury travel experiences without the need for a big upfront spend. British Airways Club is back with one of its rare Avios buying promos—a 40% bonus on purchased miles.

Purchase British Airways Avios with a Bonus

Through Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the British Airways Club is offering a 40% bonus on purchased Avios. With this promotion, you can receive a 40% bonus as long as you are buying at least 2,000 Avios in one transaction (pre-bonus).

How much does it cost to purchase British Airways Avios?

With the British Airways Club, the cost to purchase Avios varies based on the quantity purchased, even without promotions. Essentially, the more Avios you buy, the lower the cost per Avios becomes. Additionally, like the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, the price varies depending on the location where your account is registered. With this 40% bonus promotion, you will pay the following to max out this promotion:

  • If you buy 280,000 Avios (including the bonus) in US Dollars, you pay USD 4,599, which works out to a cost of US Cents 1.64 per Avios
  • If you buy 280,000 Avios (including the bonus) in Euros, you pay EUR 4,245, which is equivalent to USD 4,935. It works out to a cost of US Cents 1.76 cents per Avios
  • If you purchase 280,000 Avios (including the bonus) in British Pounds, you will pay GBP 3,539, which is equivalent to USD 4,745. It works out to a cost of US Cents 1.69 per Avios.
  • In INR terms, if your account is registered in India, this means a cost of INR 1.46 per Avios purchased (since India is priced in the GBP region)

Ordinarily, the British Airways Club lets members purchase up to 100,000 Avios per account per calendar year, before factoring in any bonuses. However, during this promotion, that cap has been raised to up to 200,000 Avios before any bonuses.

Is It Worth It?

Avios remain a powerful and flexible currency, tied into BA, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Finnair, and Qatar Airways—plus fungible among them. That means this offer could deliver exceptional value, especially:

  • Short-haul partners: think sweet-spot deals intra-Europe
  • Premium cabins: especially Qatar’s Qsuite onboard redemptions
  • Long-haul upgrades: topping off for Club or First
  • Partner perks: flights on American, Cathay, and more

Which credit card should you buy British Airways Avios with?

Typically, these point purchases are processed through Points.com, rather than directly by the hotel or airline. However, you will pay in USD, not INR. Therefore, the best cards to earn a bonus are the Axis Olympus, Axis Reserve, or American Express Platinum Charge Card, as these cards offer extra points on international spending. Beyond these, consider any card that provides a reduced foreign exchange spend conversion or one that helps you meet minimum spend requirements.

Bottomline

British Airways is offering a rare 40% bonus on purchased Avios. If you’ve a redemption strategy in place, especially for BA short-haul flights, oneworld partners, or premium Qsuite flights, this 40% bonus sale is worth considering.  Using this promotion, you can acquire up to 280,000 Avios for INR 1.46 per Avios purchased. Do your maths before buying.
