Frontier Takes Aim at Southwest Flyers With Free Bag Promotion – FlyerTalk

Frontier Airlines is offering flyers something that Southwest has discontinued: A free checked bag for flights departing between May 28 and August 18, 2025.

Flyers who are already missing having free checked bags with Southwest Airlines may have a new carrier stepping in to fill the void.

Frontier Airlines is running a new promotion offering their Economy Bundle for free, along with one free checked bag on flights between May 28 and August 18, 2025.

Airline Teases Free Bags and Other Benefits Could Become Permanent

Under the deal, all nonstop travel through Aug. 18 will get the “Economy Bundle” for free with their ticket. Normally an add-on to the base fare, the Economy Bundle includes one personal item, a carry-on bag, standard seat selection, and no change or cancellation fees.

To take advantage of the free bundle, new flights must be booked by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on March 24, 2025,  for flights through Aug. 18. The Economy Bundle must be selected as part of the ticket at checkout.

As an added bonus, flyers traveling between May 28 and August 18 can add one free checked bag to their itinerary. To take advantage of the offer, flyers must use promo code FREEBAG at checkout.

Again, the code is only available for new flights booked by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on March 24, 2025. There is a limit of one free checked bag per person, per direction. The standard weight limit applies.

According to the carrier, the changes could become a permanent fixture of the ultra-low-cost-carrier if “travelers show us they love this deal.” If the Economy Bundle were to become part of the standard ticket, it would put them above fellow category competitors Allegiant Air and Spirit Airlines in offering amenities. If one free checked bag is added as a permanent perk, Frontier would be the only carrier offering at least one free piece of luggage for all passengers after Southwest Airlines announced their policy would come to an end in 2025.

“At the end of the day, travelers just want to be valued,” Frontier chief executive Barry Biffle said in a statement. “We’re bringing back the things people love about flying – free bags, free seat selection, and flexibility – without the extra fees. No games, just great value.”
