IndiGo announces flights to Kishangarh, sixth destination in Rajasthan – NetworkThoughts

Coming close to the heels of launching Bikaner, IndiGo has now announced flights to Kishangarh. The airline will connect Kishangarh with Ahmedabad. This will be the sixth destination in Rajasthan for IndiGo, where it already flies to Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner (starts Feb 07) and now Kishangarh. Flights to Kishangarh start March 01, 2025 and will see Ahmedabad being connected to Kishangarh. The airline will deploy the 78-seat ATR 72-600 on this route.

Flights will operate as below

6E7401 AMD0745 – 0910KQH
6E7402 KQH0930 – 1100AMD

In Summer schedule, beginning March 31, 2025, the flight numbers and flight timings get revised to

6E7283 AMD1620 – 1740KQH
6E7184 KQH1820 – 1950AMD

Kishangarh Airport (IATA: KQH), serves the holy city of Pushkar, along with Ajmer. The airport was inaugurated in 2017 and benefitted from the RCS-UDAN scheme. SpiceJet was the first operator but as with many other SpiceJet routes and stations, the initial euphoria fizzled out and the airline does not operate to Kishangarh any more. The airport has a 2,000 meter runway with an apron that can handle two ATRs simultaneously. The airport is currently a Sunrise to Sunset station and could possibly be a prime candidate for future expansion to have a night landing facility. Ajmer is about 25 kms from the airport, while Pushkar is around 35 kms. Kishangarh town is right next door.

Star Air has a monopoly at Kishangarh right now with flights from Pune, Nagpur, Ghaziabad, Lucknow. The addition of IndiGo would give a boost to tourism at Kishangarh. The airport has been handling anywhere between 5000 to 6000 passengers each month. IndiGo will add about 546 departure seats per week.

Network Thoughts

There aren’t many IndiGo stations which see only one flight a day. Kishangarh relies heavily on tourist traffic to Ajmer and Pushkar. With a large network, IndiGo flights from across the country can feed traffic to this flight. There will be a sudden uptick in passenger numbers and will drive the economy at both the tourist sites. However, Rajasthan is more of a winter state than summer and a start approaching the summer months will be interesting to track. In a wide IndiGo network, the incremental cost is now minimal and would rather be absorbed by the incremental feeder traffic at a premium. The timings indicate that a shift in Summer schedule to an evening time is to facilitate more connections, which also helps build more connecting traffic out of Ahmedabad.
