Is This Korean Air’s New Livery?

Keen aviation photographers snapped images of an unusual colour scheme on a Boeing 787 approaching Seoul Gimpo Airport yesterday and soon realised it was potentially the new livery being introduced by Korean Air.

The aircraft, 787-10 HL8515 hadn’t flown since 23rd April, having been in the hangar at Busan Airport. It was then flown to Seoul wearing this updated scheme, which has not officially been announced.

Why a New Livery?Korean Air CS300

Korean Air is undergoing a major change as it merges with rival carrier Asiana Airlines. As a result, the combined airlines and aircraft will see many changes in terms of management, fleet and schedules.

It seems the airline is taking the opportunity to introduce a new corporate branding.

The New Korean Air Livery

As you can see, the new Korean Air livery features the same familiar light blue colour along most the fuselage.

Later Korean titles adorn the forward fuselage in dark blue, and the airline’s logo (which is a stylised version of the South Korea flag) is now also solely in this dark blue. This features on the tail.

The underside of the fuselage is in white, sweeping up towards the tail.

Online many have been reacting to the new scheme, with some claiming it is too bland or simple, and others saying it is very close to the KLM and TUI liveries.
