New Trump Travel Ban Targets Afghanistan, Cuba, and Haiti – FlyerTalk

The Trump Administration is once again putting a restriction on international travelers, creating a full ban for those from Afghanistan and Haiti, and a partial ban for Cuban visitors.

For the second time, the Trump administration is banning travelers from certain countries in the name of national security.

The White House named several countries on a new travel ban list on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

Ban Based on Intelligence Reports, Overstay Data

According to the Executive Order, the decision to ban travelers from certain countries was based on several factors, including intelligence on other nations and how many international travelers overstay their visas when entering the U.S. The order goes on to state that factors including illegal immigration were also considered for some countries.

“As President, I must act to protect the national security and national interest of the United States and its people,” the Executive Order reads. “I remain committed to engaging with those countries willing to cooperate to improve information-sharing and identity-management procedures, and to address both terrorism-related and public-safety risks.”

The countries that are on the full-ban list include:

  • Afghanistan
  • Burma
  • Chad
  • Republic of the Congo
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • Eritrea
  • Haiti
  • Iran
  • Libya
  • Somalia
  • Sudan
  • Yemen

In addition, some nations were given partial travel restrictions into the United States. For Cuba, the issuing of several immigrant and non-immigrant visas were suspended, while all other non-immigrant visas will have validity reduced. Other countries on the partial ban list include Laos, Sierra Leone, and Venezuela.

There will be several exceptions to the list. Individuals who are dual citizens of those countries and the United States will be allowed to enter the country, as well as those traveling on UN or NATO visas. Athletes and members of athletic teams traveling to the U.S. for competitions, along with their immediate relatives, will still be allowed to enter. This applies for both the upcoming World Cup competition and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Immediate family immigrant visas, adoption visas, Afghan Special Immigrant Visas, and immigrant visas for ethnic and religious minorities facing persecution in Iran will also be exempted from the travel ban.

The travel ban is further encompassing than the 2017 Executive Order during the first Trump administration, which targeted seven nations in the Middle East and Africa. That 90-day prohibition was ultimately upheld by the Supreme Court.
