Spirit Brings Two Free Checked Bags to Credit Card Holders – FlyerTalk

Spirit Airlines is offering Free Spirit flyers several new benefits, including complimentary upgrades at boarding and two free checked bags to credit card holders.

Months after coming out of bankruptcy, Spirit Airlines is adding new benefits to their loyalty program.

The ultra-low-cost-carrier announced several wallet-friendly perks for both elite members and credit card holders, including free checked luggage.

Free Luggage Added as Spirit Credit Card Benefit

Among the upgrades are the addition of two free checked bags for flyers who hold the Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard later in 2025. Full details will be announced as a later date. The addition comes after Southwest Airlines announced they would cut the benefit as part of a larger product restructuring.

Free Spirit flyers will now be able to use their points to book travel in all four of the airline’s “classes,” including their “Go Big” and “Go Comfy” bundles. The carrier says they are also planning to introduce additional redemption options for “personalized experiences and elevated perks that cater to every type of traveler.”

Those who are planning to earn Free Spirit Silver or Gold status will not have any additional barriers to requalification. Spirit says that there are no requirement changes in 2025 to re-earn status with no cuts to the total benefits.

The changes coincide with the launch of an upgraded seating option in the “Go Comfy” premium section of the aircraft. The new seats feature a total pitch of 32 inches and will take up the first seven rows of the aircraft, for a total of 40 seats. As part of the new installation, the blocked middle seat from the “Go Comfy” bundle will be phased out. The airline will begin installing the seats in June 2025, with the retrofit expected across the majority of their fleet by July. In the meantime, travelers can start booking available seats on May 15, 2025, for travel starting on July 9, 2025.
