Alabama is off today after barely surviving 15-seed Robert Morris yesterday. The Tide will play St. Mary’s tomorrow evening at 5:10pm CT. In the meantime, you have plenty of good basketball to entertain you today. The times below are eastern, so some math is involved for those in the proper central time zone.
Can McNeese be this year’s 12-seed sweet 16 darling? Purdue looked vulnerable at times in a 12 point win over High Point in the first round.
Needless to say, Rick Pitino has some history against Arkansas from his years coaching at Kentucky. Is the return of Boogie Fland enough to push the Hogs past an excellent St. John’s squad?
Chalk held here but barely, as both teams struggled with first round midmajors. The Aggies are slight favorites here, and there will undoubtedly be some misguided conference bragging rights on the line.
Drake is D1’s slowest paced team, and they were able to successfully bore Mizzou into submission, holding them to only 57 points in the first round upset. Texas Tech likes to play at a glacial pace as well, so have some Red Bull on hand if you want to stay awake for this one.
Auburn sleepwalked early against the Alabama State Hornets before pulling away in the second half. They are heavily favored, but Creighton is always a tough out in March and 7’1” Ryan Kalkbrenner is one of the few big men in the country with the ability to somewhat neutralize Johni Broome.
This should be a great game worthy of prime time, as a very good BYU squad led by star forward Richie Saunders takes aim at the surprisingly high scoring Badgers.
Easily the game of the day, the criminally underseeded Gonzaga Bulldogs, who ranked in the top ten according to KenPom, represent the toughest second round draw for any of the one seeds. Houston has been one of the most consistent teams all season on both ends of the floor. This one is going to be fun.
Whatever, if you’re still awake I guess you can watch the Vols tussle with UCLA.
As always, join in the discussion and be good to one another.
Roll Tide.
