In case you missed it yesterday, Alabama continued their streak in the recruiting trail with the commitment of WR Owen Cabell.
He’s got a unique size/speed combo as a 6’3” 200 pound player with some impressive track times and seems like a good candidate to be a 4-star player very soon.
In any case, WR Brian Williams Jr, a 6’4” receiver, is committing later today (most predict Alabama), and then 5-star WR Cederian Morgan, who is 6’5”, is committing on the 2nd. Essentially, there’s a good possibility that Alabama picks up three very tall wide receivers in as many days – and this right after picking up a 6’6” tight end just last Friday.
I think Kalen DeBoer has a type.
Speaking of recruiting, it’s easy to forget that Alabama just picked up a new QB only a couple of weeks ago.
I couldn’t get the video to embed, but you can watch the interview at the link above. It’s a quick blurb from the 247 national guys talking about Jett Thomalla at the recent Elite 11 camp and some of the upside he brings as a passer.
Next, Alabama QB Ty Simpson was at the Manning Passing Academy last week and apparently stood out with some of his throws.
Do that a couple of times in game this fall, and Ty will endear himself to the Alabama fan base very quickly.
There’s usually almost nothing happening in the NFL this time of year, but we got a big-time trade yesterday involving a former Bama player.
ESPN sources: Steelers traded three-time All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Dolphins in exchange for three-time All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
The rare player-for-player trade, and another trade.

With the Steelers trading Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Miami Dolphins for CB Jalen Ramsey and TE Jonnu Smith, it means that Fitzpatrick is now headed back to the team that once drafted him in the 1st round and then traded him away a season later for some dumb reason. All’s well that ends well, I guess?
Despite the recruiting news, it is still offseason after all, so check out this under-the-radar coaching hire for Alabama:
In the most unusual way, Dylan Morris has reunited with Kalen DeBoer.
Although the former Washington Huskies quarterback and four-star recruit out of Graham-Kapowsin High School isn’t listed on the University of Alabama football staff directory, the ex-Husky passer shared a workout Saturday morning with former Crimson Tide safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.
Morris, a two-year starter for UW from 2020-21 under then-coach Jimmy Lake, also updated his X bio to include the title of assistant running backs coach at Alabama. It is likely a graduate assistant role working with DeBoer as Morris embarks on his coaching career.
During his final season with the Husky football program in 2023, Morris indicated he wanted to get into coaching once his playing career came to an end. At the time, it seemed logical he could stay at UW and join DeBoer’s staff in Seattle.
Morris is only a couple of seasons removed from being a college QB (he even completed a pass to current Alabama TE, Josh Cuevas), but looks to be jumping quickly into the coaching track as a graduate assistant.
You never know with these young guys when one might just become a great coach down the road, so it’s always good to see the coaching staff giving him a job.
