Liz Lane announces Hoover City Council run, hosts Valentine’s event

Liz Lane, a dedicated artist and community advocate, has officially announced her candidacy for Hoover City Council. She is inviting the public to a special Valentine’s-themed event at her art studio on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The gathering will feature drinks and small plates as Lane shares her vision for Hoover’s future, with a focus on sustainable growth, a thriving arts scene, and expanded opportunities for families and small businesses.

“As an artist, I document the stories of those around me on canvas, but I feel called to be an artist within and for the community,” said Lane. “I want to ensure that our city’s development is responsible and sustainable, preserving a healthy legacy for future generations.”

Lane’s campaign prioritizes responsible development that maintains Hoover’s environmental integrity. She supports increasing green spaces and incorporating native plants to enhance the city’s natural beauty while promoting sustainability.

A strong proponent of the arts, Lane envisions establishing a cultural arts center in Hoover to serve as a hub for both visual and performing arts. “A thriving arts community strengthens the heart of a city, providing both cultural enrichment and economic benefits,” she explained. “A dedicated space for the arts would be a valuable investment in Hoover’s future.”

Lane is also committed to supporting small businesses, particularly those owned by women and minorities. “As a small business owner myself, I understand the challenges entrepreneurs face,” she said. “I want to ensure they have access to resources, mentorship, and a supportive community to help them grow and succeed.”

Education and family support are central to Lane’s platform. She aims to work with nonprofit organizations to expand meal programs for children when school is out and to improve screenings for dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and autism. “Every child deserves the best possible education and the support they need to thrive,” she said. “By enhancing resources for children and families, we strengthen our entire community.”

With a career in abstract expressionist art and as a mother of two elementary-aged daughters, Lane brings a creative and fresh perspective to local government. She is also passionate about increasing representation for women and mothers in Hoover’s leadership. “Women and mothers have valuable perspectives that need to be heard,” Lane emphasized. “I want to ensure that every voice in our community is amplified and included in decision-making.”
