Sen. Britt receives American Farm Bureau Federation’s “Outstanding New Member” award

U.S. Senator Katie Britt, R-Ala., accepted the “Outstanding New Member of Congress” award from the American Farm Bureau Federation. This award recognizes a member of Congress who is in, or has recently completed, their first term and has already proven to be a reliable partner for agriculture.

“I am honored to receive the ‘Outstanding New Member of Congress’ award from the American Farm Bureau Federation. The importance of our family farmers and agricultural community cannot be overstated — American food security is critical to our economic security and national security. I am proud to be an unwavering champion for the hardworking men and women who tirelessly work to feed, fuel, and clothe America. I will continue fighting to ensure our farmers have the necessary resources and support to tend to their land for generations to come,” said Senator Britt.

“I’m honored to present the Outstanding New Member of Congress Award to Senator Katie Britt,” said AFBF President Zippy Duvall. “Her leadership is needed to help address the challenges facing America’s farmers and ranchers. With increasing uncertainty in farming caused by high supply prices, shrinking paychecks and the lack of a new, modernized farm bill, we need lawmakers like Senator Britt to continue working to create opportunities for America’s farmers and ranchers.”

Senator Britt was nominated by the Alabama Farmers Federation in honor of her service to rural America in Washington, D.C., including her dedication to farmers in Alabama and across the nation.

ALFA President Jimmy Parnell said, “Senator Britt is a rising star with a bright future in the U.S. Senate. She grew up in rural Alabama and has already proven herself to be a strong proponent of agriculture. Senator Britt understands that farmers must thrive for rural communities to survive. I believe there is no new member of Congress more deserving of this recognition than our friend Senator Katie Britt.”

AFBF’s Outstanding New Member of Congress Award recognizes members of Congress who have served no more than one full term in Congress at the time of nomination and exemplify agricultural leadership and support of Farm Bureau policies. Recipients are chosen for having a philosophy or record that demonstrates a commitment to sound agricultural policies supported by Farm Bureau, the private enterprise system, fiscal conservatism and reduced federal regulation of businesses and individuals.

Recently, Senator Britt joined her colleagues in introducing the Death Tax Repeal Act, legislation that would permanently repeal the federal estate tax that can hit family-run farms and small businesses as the result of the owner’s death. On reintroduction in the 119th Congress, she said, “I will continue to fight to protect the ability of Alabama farmers, cattlemen, and small business owners to live the American Dream and pass on their family’s legacy and livelihood to their children.”

In both the 118th and 119th Congresses, Senator Britt also joined her colleagues in resolutions highlighting the important role of the National FFA Organization in developing the next generation of leaders by providing educational and career opportunities to students. “FFA empowers young people across America to take up the torch and become the next generation of farmers and cattlemen, as well as leaders in their local communities,” she stated.

“Senator Britt has supported numerous pieces of legislation to combat the rise in American land ownership by foreign adversaries as well as cyber threats to our nation’s critical agricultural sector. She introduced the Not One More Inch or Acre Act, and cosponsored the Farm and Food Cybersecurity Act, the Foreign Adversary Risk Management (FARM) Act in both the 118th and 119th Congresses,” her release stated.
