These two beauties from the Glengoyne Distillery arrived at The Murder Table for a tasting thanks to the generosity of our dear friend Rob who has been on a serious whisky shopping roll in 2024! Unlike the other two whiskies of his that we reviewed a short while ago, he did NOT buy these at a random New Jersey liquor store…
During a recent hiking tour of the Scottish Highlands, Rob had the good fortune of taking a tour of the Glengoyne Distillery, so I guess we can say that these whiskies are right from the source.
Here’s a bit of information about each whisky taken directly from the Glengoyne Distillery:
Glengoyne 21: Christmas cake, honey, and rich fruit – with a long cinnamon finish. Matured exclusively in hand-selected sherry casks for 21 years. Perfect after dinner or, frankly, anytime. 43% ABV
Glengoyne Teapot Dram Batch No. 009: Our most popular limited edition range, the Teapot Dram tells the story of an old distillery tradition where workers would be given three fingers of whisky, three times a day.
On the nose, Batch No. 009 provides warming, decadent apple strudel with almond flakes, chocolate coated raisins, and hints of creme caramel. To taste, rich and velvety, sticky toffee pudding with dates and spices from cinnamon and cloves, hints of dark berries and dried fruits from the sherry cask. To finish, the latest Teapot Dram has a rich mouthfeel with more rich sherry notes and refreshing tropical fruits. 58.9% ABV
There are more than a few triggers in those tasting notes. And by triggers we mean that any mention of apple strudel will invariably lead to a bad Sergeant Schulz of Hogan’s Heroes by one or both of us. Our apologies in advance!
