Thanks to the never ending craft cocktail revolution, we’ve been exposed to many a fine European liqueur, but never one from the Eastern part of the continent. On today’s episode of A Tasting at The Murder Table, we travel to Croatia for a taste of an apertif whose recipe goes all the way back to 1862. Antique Pelinkovac is its name and it comes in a lovely square bottle with a very pretty label.
Since this is new to us and probably new to you too, we’ll cut to the chase and give you a bit more info about this spirit which came directly from a press release that landed in our inbox not so long ago:
A Rich Heritage Rediscovered: Antique Pelinkovac is not just a spirit; it’s the embodiment of Croatia’s rich history and craftsmanship. Originally created by distiller Franjo Pokorny in 1862, the recipe was lost during World War II but rediscovered in the early 2000s. The reformulated elixir, now known as Antique Pelinkovac, has garnered international acclaim.
Unique Taste Profile for Discerning Palates: The taste profile of Antique Pelinkovac is a harmonious blend of over 40 botanicals, with the dominating flavor of anise and licorice derived from the key botanical—wormwood. Unlike many amaros, Antique strikes the perfect balance between sweetness and bitterness, making it an ideal choice for both seasoned mixologists and cocktail enthusiasts.
We place a great deal of value on a spirit that is both highly drinkable (on its own) and highly mixable. To find out if Antique Pelinkovac is one of those spirits, click play on the following video:
