To celebrate 25 Years of the Ardbeg Committee, the Distillery created its new expression “Eureka“. This bottling is a Committee exclusive.
This dram is a marriage of Pedro Ximinez casks and bourbon casks.
Committee members from all around the world were invited to a special tasting.
They tasted 5 different Ardbeg expressions blind. They did not know anything about what was in their glasses. They were the guinea pigs. Their thoughts and tasting notes were used in the creation of “Eureka”
The Whisky Boys had a recent visit to Islay and were disappointed that Ardbeg Distillery was closed due to damage caused by the recent storm.
Let’s open the bottle and have a taste.

Colour…Light Amber
Nose…An amazing nose brought me sweet smoke, freshly brewed Espresso, charred beef, iodine, vanilla, sherry soaked raisins.
Taste…No denying this is an Ardbeg, elegant peat smoke, seaweed, cinder toffee, dark stoned fruits, very complex, beach BBQ, I just love this.
Finish…Long finish, the peat and the fruit are well in command, glorious marriage of Islay and Jerez.
Delightful dram Ardbeg and Islay in a bottle, you can not get better than this unless you can sip it at the Ardbeg warehouse. Priced at just over £70.00.
Nicola and I have been Ardbeg Committee members for many a year and enjoyed the benefits of being a member. Sadly, as I mentioned, we both visited Islay post storm and as a consequence this is the first time that we have not been able to visit this iconic distillery. We really regretted not being able to visit and check out the variety of expressions. Ardbeg holds a very special place in my heart, and next time in Islay a visit will be high on my to do list.
