As we stated during our review of the Barrell Bourbon Batch #035…
Way back at the end of Summer 2023, we were lucky enough to have Joe Beatrice and Tripp Stimson of Barrell Craft Spirits on our What We Watch When We Drink podcast to discuss their company and how they create new whisky expressions while sipping on three of their latest releases. We also discussed National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation because it was a scorcher of a summer in Kentucky and Joe and Tripp were hoping for some Christmas chilliness (click here to listen on Apple Podcasts).
The second of the three whiskeys that we discussed was their Barrell Rye Batch #004. Here’s what they have to say about it:
10-year-old Indiana Rye barrels with notes of brown sugar and a touch of smoke had 5 and 6-year-old barrels layered in for fruit and spice character. 14-year-old Canadian barrels were added for their dry herbal notes. The result is fruit-forward rye with layers of depth.
BLEND COMPONENTS:
Indiana: 5, 6, & 10 years old
Tennessee: 5 years old
Kentucky: 6 years old
Canadian: 14 years old
DERIVED MASH BILL:
Rye: 89%
Corn: 7%
Malted Barley: 4%
This was yet another whiskey that we enjoyed during our chat, so we’re following up with a full Murder Table session review. Click play on the following video to find out if this was just as good the second time around:
