Beer Space on Tap : The Bottom Line
In terms of atmosphere, I really liked Beer Space on Tap. It’s relaxing with a some gentle background music playing lent itself nicely to a chilled evening. Howeve, it’s the prices here that got to me and for that, I can’t recommended it over other places in Kobe. There are positives such that the bar is non-smoking and has no table charge. Alongside this, there is some free wifi and the prices include tax. But it’s those prices that will leave your wallet hurting.

Beer Space on Tap : Background
Beer Space on Tap opened in August 2020, and is centred around being a one-man bar. Moreover, the design is so that the bar man has access to all the customers, with an old-fashioned sensiblity to it. Expect cork coasters lined up perfectly in front of you. Bottle caps placed on the edge of said coaster. Finally, some old fashioned music in the background – loud enough to be heard, not enough to drown out conversation.
The bar is located in the basement of the Kobe Hotel Plaza building, less than one minute walk from Motomachi station. It can also be reached from Kyūkyoryūchi-Daimarumae Station.
Beer Space on Tap : Atmosphere & Interior
As you walk into the bar, you’re greeted by a large entrance with a bike hanging up. A good sign for me! Some gentle jazz was playing in the background as we were invited to take out seats at the counter. There is space for eight people at the counter, and then another four at some tables against the wall. It’s quite an airy and light space, considering you’re underground. I was honestly expecting something a bit darker. The whole place is non-smoking and there is no table charge either.
It was a really relaxing environment too. I’ve been to some bars that I’ve questioned the hygiene before, but this place was on the opposite end of the spectrum. I came in wearing jeans and a tshirt, while the barman looked overdressed in comparison to me.

Beer Space on Tap : Beer & Tap Information
There are eight taps of beer on, with one of those taps dedicated to a macro lager, with Heartland being the beer of choice. You can also find a list of cans and bottles available to buy. However, this is where the bad news starts – it’s not cheap to drink here. The beers come in three sizes : small (250 ml) from ¥1,056, medium (370 ml) from ¥1,320, and large (470 ml) from ¥1,694. I went for the weakest and largest beer as I was shocked. Of course, there is no happy hour nor any beer flights on offer here.
The cans and bottles are also not cheap, which was not a surprise. However, what was a surprise was how much they cost. The bar tries to have some local beers, with Rokko Beer being the main one today. Yet, the cans were almost three times the price compared to some of the local shops. The cans and bottles are for drinking in only though so there is no discount for taking them away.
