The 117 Series is a limited expression lineup that first came out in Spring 2021. Old Forester is a double barreled bourbon in Old Forester’s Whiskey Row Series. The Extra Old release was left for 24 months in a heavily charred secondary barrel for a very long finish. It features a mash bill of 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley, and is bottled at a barrel strength of 46.5% ABV.
Dark amber, resembles aged shellac.
Boiling molasses, oil paint, sweet soap bouquet.
A forceful bourbon sweetness barely containing its richness. Ricola. Deep, carbonized sugar, lily-like floral notes.
Exceptionally long and deep. The undernotes of sweetness rising to an adult-level caramel flavor as if fades.
This release is an experiment and one that has succeeded and points to more ideas to try. It is a rewarding whiskey and makes me excited to taste the next offering in the series.
