Cask Strength Whiskies To Look Out For In 2025

Cask strength whisky is where the spirit shows its raw, untamed character—bottled straight from the barrel without dilution, offering an intensity of flavor and depth that standard releases often can’t match. Some are surprisingly drinkable, others will test your tolerance, but all deliver an unforgettable experience for those who appreciate whisky in its purest form.

Predicting the best cask strength whiskies of 2025 is a bit of a gamble—distilleries are tight-lipped about upcoming releases, and some of these bottles may never materialize. But based on past patterns and insider insights, this list highlights the cask strength expressions that whisky lovers should keep an eye out for. Whether they arrive on shelves or remain wishful thinking, each of these whiskies represents the best of what full-proof spirits have to offer.

Redbreast 12 Year Old Cask Strength

BUY NOW: $92

Ireland is becoming increasingly familiar with cask strength styles. For a long time, Redbreast 12 Cask Strength was the only option, but now we have Writer’s Tears Cask Strength, The Quiet Man, The Bushmills Causeway Collection, and hopefully more to come. Amidst this growing selection, Redbreast has remained a go-to for me, and the way the 12 Cask Strength delivers its power is truly unique among whiskies worldwide.

On the nose and palate, it offers soft, sweet, buttery fruits with a hint of spice. Once sampled, those gentle notes remain, but as you swallow, there’s a sudden backdraft of Irish intensity that few whiskies can rival. A truly unforgettable dram that will leave you wanting more.

Benromach Cask Strength Vintage

This 2013 vinatge is a favorite of mine. Keep an eye out for Benromach’s future cask strength releases.

BUY NOW: $90 (2014)

It’s no secret that I’m a Benromach fanboy—they do a lot of things better than many other Scottish distilleries, at least in my opinion. But their cask strength vintage releases are on another level. Peated, heavily sherry-matured, bottled at natural strength—and remarkably affordable. These bottles can still be found for under £70 in the UK.

I almost hesitate to talk about them, as if I’m giving away one of the whisky world’s best-kept secrets. But if you’re after sherry influence, peat, high proof, and great value, Benromach might just offer the best peated bargain in all of Scotland.

Ardnamurchan Cask Strength

BUY NOW: $81 (2023)

Ardnamurchan is another whisky I can’t help but rave about. A salty, sweet, coastal, gently peated single malt, it has quickly become a shining beacon of West Coast mainland scotch.

Despite its youth, Ardnamurchan delivers a powerful, well-balanced dram—bold yet honest, with all the classic West Coast elements that make each sip feel warm and comforting. Truly delicious.

The distillery releases a wide range of expressions, many bottled at 50% ABV or higher, often with a strong focus on sherry, rum, or Sauternes cask influence. With its mix of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks, along with both peated and unpeated spirit, Ardnamurchan occupies a truly unique place in scotch whisky today.

Glen Scotia Campbeltown Malts Festival Limited Edition

This is the 2024 Campbeltown Malts Festival from Glen Scotia.

BUY NOW: $81

The Glen Scotia Campbeltown Malts Festival release is always an exciting moment for whisky fans, especially those who love single malts. Glen Scotia puts on a show with this annual bottling, and for good reason—it’s consistently something intriguing. Over the years, we’ve seen both peated and unpeated distillates, primarily bourbon-matured but finished in everything from ruby port and tawny port to fino sherry, Guyanese rum casks, and Bordeaux red wine casks—all bottled at cask strength.

As a distillery, Glen Scotia has been ticking a lot of boxes for whisky lovers. It’s a Campbeltown single malt that’s actually available on shelves, offering a wide range of styles and age statements, with this festival release adding an extra layer of fun. Prices vary depending on the age of the edition, but it remains one of the most exciting annual releases from the region.

Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged

The 2024 Cellar Aged bottling from Maker’s Mark.

BUY NOW: $160 (2023)

This is the one release I’m uncertain about. The 2023 and 2024 editions were a blend of 12 and 13-year-old wheated bourbons—the oldest whiskies Maker’s Mark has ever put out.

Bottled at nearly 60% ABV, it retains the rich, chocolate and coffee-laden character that Maker’s Mark is renowned for worldwide. It’s a must-try for any bourbon fan who wants both power and refined sweetness. I’m not sure how many bottles were released globally, but it’s been a staple in my cabinet since its 2023 debut. Here’s hoping for a 2025 edition!
