I have actually stopped thinking about alcohol, I think that’s a good sign. When I stopped thinking about having a fag with a drink on a night out I knew I’d beaten the craving.
One thing that is really spurring me on though is the bet I had with my fella: If I manage to not drink for 30 days he has to give €100 to a charity of my choosing. If I don’t manage it I have to give €100 to a charity of his choosing.
It’s the in-laws’ 45th wedding anniversary on 29th September, a Sunday, and the likelihood is that they’ll take us out for a meal for lunch, probably at the sea.
Now, I’ve already spoken about that fresh, crisp white wine that goes splendidly with a seafood meal and my boyfriend was trying to convince me that stopping the 30-day challenge a day earlier was no biggy (actually it’s 2 days earlier, technically). Either he did this to con me into losing the bet or he really doesn’t give a flying fart about the challenge and probably thinks I’ve done enough already. Normally I would agree!
I honestly do consider myself weak willed, or let’s say malleable at least – my brother suggesting we snort a drink when we were young and naive called Trevor (tequila, vodka redbull – TVR) and me agreeing is a case in point!! And I probably would’ve given up giving up way before now if it wasn’t for the bet (which I am DEFINITELY going to hold him to) and the blog…and I really don’t care if nobody is reading this as it’s becoming more therapeutic than anything…I highly recommend it.
Talking about charities, Macmillan Cancer Support is challenging you to Go Sober for October. They do an amazing job supporting those living with cancer; financially, emotionally and physically. If you know anyone who is going sober for October, support them! If not, well hell just go without that extra pint and give £5 to a charity…it’ll make you feel better than that pint would….FACT!
