We had a team meeting today, then went out to lunch together. Where I would usually order a beer or a glass of wine, I had the obligatory water instead. Naturally the others started asking why I wasn’t drinking (as is the norm) and it came out about the challenge. Some asked me if I felt better, or, at least, different and the answer, honestly, is no!
So we started talking about whether a small amount of alcohol is good for you and one of my colleagues talked about a family member being told by the doctor to have a thimble-full of whiskey in the morning…something to do with blood pressure I think, great excuse as it’s for ‘medicinal purposes’. My gran also always used to have whiskey in her tea, as per previous blog, and then we started talking about the Queen and the Queen Mom. Apparently, the Queen’s boozy habits of drinking every day has had a hand in keeping her alive to the grand old age of 93 so far! It has been reported that she likes to have a tipple before lunch, one after lunch and a stiff one before bed (wahay!!!). Her daily intake goes as follows:
Gin and Dubonnet before lunch (no idea what Dubonnet is)
A glass of wine with or after lunch
A dry martini in the early evening (go Lizzy!)
A glass of bubbly before bed (Bollinger – ooh I say!)
What a lush!!! Refined tastes though. I’d so love it if they’d reported that she sups on a pint in the afternoon, but one would never stoop so low. They say that the Queen Mother was the same and she lived to a ripe old age of 101!
The moral of the story? If you’re rich you can slurp a glass of champers and live forever. Cheers, Ma’am…bottom’s up!
