This is a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. A small batch release and this dram contains single malts from the islands of Orkney, Arran, Jura and Islay.
I strongly suggest that you visit their website Douglas Laing to view their fantastic range of Whiskies, vodka, gin and rum. There’s a dram to suit everyone.
In the past, I tasted many of Douglas Laing’s Whiskies including Big Peat, Scallywag, Timorous Beastie and the Epicurean all of which are so different from each other and were a delight to taste and savour.
Let’s open the bottle and have a wee taste.
Rock Island – Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, Small Batch Release, 46.8% Alc/vol
Colour…Oaked Chardonnay.
Nose…Sweet but not hiding the peat, cold ashes in the fireplace, aroma from sliced Granny Smiths, a background hint of vanilla.
Taste…In comes the ocean spray, burnt puff pastry, a healthy hit of peat smoke, I find it very warming on this cold and very windy day, pork scratchings, a tangle of lobster pots and crab shells, very maritime, mechanic’s overalls, a delight on the palate.
Finish…Quite long, a light delicate mouth feel, charred oak stave, finishing with delightful sweet peat.
What a delightful dram with its pale colour and the grand hit of peat. I think the main component has got to be Caol Ila which is one of my all time favorite drams and my Whisky cupboard has always got a few bottles of Caol Ila in it.
This fine dram is on sale for only £37.95. It is a grand price for a dram of this quality and outstanding flavour.
