  • Owensboro, Kentucky’s Green River Distilling Co. has introduced a new wheated single barrel Bourbon. Made from a mash of 70% corn, 21% wheat, and 9% malted barley, it’s available to retailers and on-premise by the barrel. Each barrel has aged at least five years and comes in between 55% and 65.5% abv. Only 100 barrels of Green River Kentucky Straight Wheated Single Barrel will be available in 2025, with individual bottles carrying a suggested price of $60 a bottle. Green River will offer a limited number of bottles of the wheated Bourbon at its tasting room in Owensboro and at Bardstown Bourbon Company’s distillery and tasting room in Bardstown and Louisville. Green River has been a part of Bardstown Bourbon Company since 2022.
  • Kobrand-imported Taylor Fladgate has released Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port 2019, a single quinta vintage bottling from the Port house. The wine carries a suggested price of $70 a bottle and is sourced from grapes grown in its namesake vineyard. Taylor Fladgate notes the Port’s long life-span, saying that this release is looking to suit demand for well-aged Port at the end of the decade. The 2019 Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port is rolling out in select retailers across the U.S. this month.
  • Fred Rosen, a Market Watch Leader who was CEO of Chicago retail institution Sam’s Wines & Spirits, passed away February 4 at the age of 88. During his career in the business, Rosen grew Sam’s from a neighborhood liquor store to a destination superstore among the largest in the country. Considered a pioneer in upgrading customer service, product selection, pricing, and education in wine and spirits retail, he earned Market Watch Retailer of the Year honors in 1996.
