Spirit Of Gallo Expands Gran Malo Shot Brand Into New Markets

March 7, 2025

Spirit of Gallo is expanding distribution of spicy Tequila-based liqueur Gran Malo into several new markets after the tamarind-flavored shot label got off to a fast start last year in Southern California. Gran Malo is now rolling out on- and off-premise across Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, California, and Texas, with more markets on the way.

Gran Malo is at 30% abv, sells at $20 a 750-ml. and $2 a 50-ml., and is aimed at the shot occasion. The blend of macerated Mexican chilis and natural tamarind flavor mixed with Tequila was cofounded by Mexican content creator Luisito Comunica, in partnership with Casa Lumbre, with Gallo serving as exclusive U.S. importer and distributor. The brand’s logo features iconic characters from Mexican folklore—El Diablo and La Calaca—symbolizing the spirit of adventure and risk, and the cap of the Gran Malo bottle doubles as a shot glass.
