Pernod’s U.S. Sales Get Third-Quarter Boost As Wholesalers Stock Up
Pernod Ricard saw sales decline 4% to €8.5 billion ($9.6b) in the nine months through March, representing the first three quarters of its fiscal year, which the company called “a resilient net sales performance in a global macroeconomic and geopolitical environment which remains challenging and very fluid with regards to tariffs.” Pernod is expecting sales to decline in the low single digits for its full fiscal year ending in June.
The French drinks giant said the U.S. spirits market “remains broadly stable” at the moment, with the company’s nine-month sales down 5%. U.S. shipments received a boost in the most recent quarter through March, rising by 2% as wholesalers stocked up in anticipation of tariffs. Pernod added that its underlying sell-out trends are improving in both value and volume terms as the company sharpens its focus on execution in the market. Late last year, Pernod appointed former William Grant & Sons executive Paul Basford as U.S. chief commercial officer, tasked with “defining and executing our commercial vision and strategy to build our portfolio and ignite topline growth.”
Within the U.S. portfolio, Pernod touted “improving performances” on Jameson, Absolut, and Kahlua, buttressed by innovation activity such as the debut of a new Absolut Ocean Spray RTD. Also new to market is Jameson Triple Triple Irish whiskey, which is distilled three times and matured in three different types of casks—ex-Bourbon, ex-Sherry, and chestnut—carrying a retail price of $29 a bottle.—Daniel Marsteller
