Sonnel Hospitality Group has relaunched Marrickville Tavern with a fresh look that celebrates both its legacy, and passion for sport. Under the guidance of former Solotel CEO, Justine Baker, the tavern is embracing the tagline: Pies, Pints, and Punting.

Established in 1884, the pub offers free pool all day on Tuesdays and has been developed with a focus on creating a welcoming and female-friendly atmosphere.

Beverage consultant Brendan Hill has curated an inexpensive yet well-crafted cocktail menu, including espresso martinis and old fashioneds. Daily drink specials include $7 beers and house wines from 4-6pm on weekdays, and $15 post-game cocktails like margaritas and negronis from 9-11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The tavern’s food menu has also been refreshed with a selection of classic pies, such as pepper steak, red wine lamb shank, and chicken leek and mushroom.

The tavern has sporting memorabilia on display including an IBF World Championship belt signed by boxing legend Kostya Tszyu. It is also home to a mural of Marrickville-born boxing icon Jeff Fenech, known as the ‘Marrickville Mauler.’ The mural was created by Lara Allport and Miguel Gonzalez as a tribute to Fenech’s journey from local athlete to world champion. It is signed by Fenech.
