Mike’s Hard Freeze is Nostalgia in a Can

Mike’s Hard Lemonade is taking it back to the 90s with their nostalgia-inducing Mike’s Hard Freeze lineup.

While seltzers are always looking for the next random fruit to pretend their drink tastes like, Mike’s Hard Freeze flavors — Red, Blue, White, and Pink — are meant to taste like the slushies we grew up drinking. Think ICEE but alcoholic. Or like a Slurpee that you added booze to so you could sneak it into your high school football game like I did as a definitely 21-year-old high schooler.

Most of the flavors behind the color-based names are about what you’d expect, but White is a wildcard. And while they’re definitely sweet, each has just enough of a 2nd level of flavor to cut it. Here’s how I’d describe them:

  • Blue – Blue raspberry candy with a bonus kick of sour
  • Red – Cherry with just enough strawberry to mix things up
  • Pink – Tart pink lemonade, which I completely forget existed until now
  • White – Tastes just like an orange creamsicle with a dash of vanilla

You can also combine flavors like a psycho kid running the rails on the Slurpee machine. Who knew we were practicing to be mixologists when we were making suicides as kids?

And before you ask, no, you aren’t supposed to freeze Mike’s Hard Freeze. The can will probably burst. I’m guessing they saw that potential for confusion coming, because their tagline is, “all the flavor without the brain freeze.” That said, these are definitely best consumed cooler than cool, aka ice cold.

Mike’s Hard Freeze is just launching today, but you should be able to find it wherever you listen to your podcasts buy your alcohol. It comes in 12-can variety packs so you get the full nostalgia trip in a single case, or you can go big with Red or Blue in a 23.5 oz can.
