A new European-inspired venue has emerged on Sydney’s bar scene, with the Love Tilly Group (LTG) launching Letra House. The underground wine bar is located beneath the Palazzo Salato on Kent Street.

Designed by Sarah Watt from Studio Vista, Letra House features a cobblestone entry, dark walnut finishes, timber accents, and exposed brick walls, all inspired by the team’s favourite ‘hole-in-the-wall’ bars across Europe.

The venue offers an ever-changing wine list, catering not only to wine lovers but also to food enthusiasts. The concept took shape when LTG co-founder, Scott McComas-Williams, spent time in Spain, which also led to the appointment of Brandon Jones as Head Chef. Jones has created a menu influenced by Spanish flavours and dishes.

The wine program, curated by LTG co-founder, Matthew Swieboda, and Head Sommelier, Julie Barbero-Lesage, features more than 50 wines available by the glass. The selection spans global regions, including the US, Lebanon, Greece, Italy, France, and Spain. Notable wines include the Apostolos Thymispolous Xinomavro 2021, a fruit-forward, crunchy red from Greece, and the rare Paolo Bea Arboreus 2016, an orange wine made with skin-contact Trebbiano.

Swieboda says, “We wanted to create an approachable, vibey late-night wine bar, where guests can come and enjoy a really interesting selection of wine from around the world.”

For cocktail enthusiasts, Bar Manager, Jacob Wicks, mixes drinks like the Letra Martini, made with olive leaf gin, dry madeira, and koji-fermented tomato concentrate.

With a wide food menu including tapas, large share plates, and an exceptional wine and cocktail list, Letra House is set to become a standout in Sydney’s late-night bar scene.
