RepuBrew 69 IPA : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
It poured out a slightly hazy golden straw colour, adorned with a plump white head. The head was made of medium and large bubbles which popped away to a thin layer on top.
I’m in two minds about the aroma of this beer. Initially, it had a distinct nose of citrus – lemon and grapefruit – and I waited for the dankness that I’ve come to accept from a West Coast IPA. However, when it did arrive, it was muted and lacked punch. After patiently waiting another 10 minutes for the beer to warm, there was a touch of resinous note present. Yet, I wanted more. In addition, the malt biscuity note was more noticeable than that same resinous note.
Thankfully, the body did pack a decent bitter punch, though it didn’t longer long. The citrus notes came, soared during drinking, and then lingered on, long into the aftertaste. Yet that dankness couldn’t quite drag itself up. It was disappointingly present, always threatening, yet never delivering. Unlike some of the recent beers from RepuBrew, there were no off flavours in this beer, neither in the nose or in the body.
The Bottom Line
It’s drinkable, bitter, and hoppy. But needs more of that dankness to elevate itself.
