The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) is launching a limited-edition spring collection featuring four rare single-cask whiskies with age statements ranging from 27 to 35 years old. The Whispers of Spring Creators Collection will be available beginning April 16 with extremely limited bottle counts.

The collection, priced at $1,525 for the complete set, features expressions from the Lowland, Highland, and Speyside regions, with individual bottles ranging from $315-$595.

“Whispers of Spring collection invites you to rediscover the depth and diversity of Scotch, with each distillery contributing a unique expression,” says Kai Ivalo, Whisky Director at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. “Each bottle evokes the essence of spring with aromas, flavors and textures that offer a refreshing tasting experience that mirrors the season’s natural rebirth. Whispers of Spring tells a unique story of transformation, providing a personal connection to the concept of renewal – not just in the whisky itself, but in the way we enjoy and appreciate it.”

SMWS Whispers of Spring

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society Whispers of Spring Creators Collection consists of the following whiskies:

  • Cask No. 50.120 – Dawn’s Embrace, 53.4% ABV, 54 bottles available, $500 SRP

A 34 Year Old whisky that “captures the essence of morning mist over the Lowlands.” Expect oak, vanilla, and sweet honey. SMWS codes suggest that this whisky was distilled at the Bladnoch Distillery.

  • Cask No. 94.51 – Verdant Reawakening, 55.7% ABV, 54 bottles available, $315 SRP

A 27 Year Old whisky designed to emulate the vibrant energy of springtime in the Highlands. Grassy notes, citrus, and sweetness. The code ’94’ corresponds to Fettercairn Distillery.

  • Cask No. 72.125 – Blossom Reverie, 49.6% ABV, 66 bottles available, $375 SRP

A light and delicate 29 Year Old whisky that pays homage to the spring blossoms of Speyside. Apple blossom, pear, and vanilla. This whisky, according to the SMWS codes, was distilled at Miltonduff.

  • Cask No. 105.55 – Crepuscular Complexity, 46.2% ABV, 25 bottles available, $595 SRP

Daytime in Spring fades into dusk, inspiring Crepuscular Complexity – a 35 Year Old whisky that has notes of heathy, honey, and subtle smoke. A single malt from Tomore Distillery.

Seasonal Inspiration

Euan Campbell, Head of Whisky Creation at SMWS, explains the collection’s thematic approach: “Sometimes it’s fun to explore the technical and process side of whisky, and sometimes it’s best to let the whisky take you to a time and place and simply revel in sheer enjoyment. Our Whispers of Spring Collection does just that.”

Each bottling in the Whispers of Spring collection represents different aspects of spring renewal. “Dawn’s Embrace signals the start of something new, Verdant Reawakening celebrates the richness of nature’s rebirth, Blossom Reverie evokes the daydreams of spring, and Crepuscular Complexity represents the lingering light of dusk. They are perfect contemplative drams to enjoy while considering what spring renewal will bring.” Campbell notes.

The Whispers of Spring collection marks the beginning of a series of limited releases focused on unique whisky production techniques and cask maturation. Additional Creators Collection releases will come out over the next 12 months.

Founded more than 40 years ago, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society now has over 40,000 members worldwide. The full collection and individual bottles will be available through the Society’s website at smwsa.com.
