Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington and acclaimed actor James Norton will brave the cold waters off Kent’s coast this Friday as Talisker whisky launches an ambitious ocean conservation initiative. The Wild Blue Swim Challenge at Joss Bay combines endurance swimming with environmental activism, marking World Ocean Day (June 8th) with a 10-hour aquatic marathon designed to raise funds for marine protection.
The challenge coincides with the release of Talisker The Wild Blue, a limited edition single malt presented in 100% recycled glass bottles. Priced at £82, each bottle sold triggers a £3 donation to the Blue Marine Foundation, with £112,608 already pledged to support coastal habitat restoration.
Celebrity Swimmers Take the Plunge
Beginning at 7 am and concluding at 5 pm on 6th June, swimmers will tackle the dramatic waters beneath Joss Bay’s towering cliffs. The event transforms individual endurance into collective impact, with Talisker donating £150 for every kilometre covered by all participants combined.
“Like everyone, I’m in awe of the ocean. It’s wild, powerful, and under threat,” said Norton. “I’m proud to support Talisker and Blue Marine Foundation in this initiative to raise funds for projects that help to restore marine ecosystems and return wildlife to our coastlines. This is about protecting biodiversity and reconnecting with the natural world before it’s too late.”
Adlington echoed this sentiment, describing her participation as supporting “Talisker’s bold commitment to ocean conservation – this is more than a challenge; it’s a call to action.”
Talisker Wild Blue Scotch Whisky
The Wild Blue expression embodies Talisker’s coastal heritage through its distinctive flavour profile. According to official tasting notes, the whisky displays burnished gold colouring with polished brass highlights. The nose delivers classic peppery spice alongside signature smoky notes, whilst maritime aromas of seaweed and salty sea spray balance hints of red wine and dried cranberries. The medium to full-bodied whisky offers smooth, layered drinking with a long, sweetly smoky finish.
Available through select retailers including The Whisky Exchange, The Whisky Shop, Master of Malt, Whisky World, and Malts.com, the limited edition connects whisky enthusiasts directly with ocean conservation efforts. The 48.2% ABV expression demonstrates how premium spirits can drive environmental change whilst delivering exceptional quality.
The initiative extends beyond Friday’s challenge, inviting ongoing participation through social media engagement and additional wild swimming opportunities. Limited relay spots remain available through Malts.com registration, allowing supporters to join the movement protecting marine ecosystems. Through combining athletic achievement with environmental purpose, Talisker transforms individual passion into collective ocean advocacy.
