Neil: Hello and welcome to The Schapera Show where Viv and Neil explore this big adventure called Life. Yes, that’s right, we have something different today as you can tell because I am introducing the show and that’s because this month’s guest is none other than Vivien! So, I will be asking the questions and Vivien will be giving us the answers and let’s hope she does a decent job. Welcome, Vivien, you’re going to talk about your book today, aren’t you?

Vivien: Thank you, Neil, yes, we can talk about my various books, but most importantly, I want to talk about my most recent publication which is a new edition of my very first book, How to Establish and Maintain a Strong Client Base a handbook for people who want to earn a living doing what they love.

Neil: Oh, so this is a revision of a book that you wrote a long time ago?

Vivien: Yes, I wrote the first version specifically for Alexander Teachers, back in 1996, and it was published in serial form, chapter-by-chapter, in our professional journal, and then we also made photocopied manuals which we used when we taught workshops on the topic.

Then, in 2004, I revised the manual so that it could be a handbook for all client-based businesses, not just us Alexander Teachers.

Neil: 2004? But that’s over 20 years ago? What happened in-between?

Vivien: Exactly! Well you may ask! What happened in-between was this thing called the internet, and this thing called social media. I finished the revision and realized that we had a new marketing dynamic in the world – one that I was completely unfamiliar with, and couldn’t even write about – rendering my manuscript essentially useless.

Neil: So, what did you do?

Vivien: Haha! What all writers do – I put the manuscript on the back burner and tried to forget about it. But, to cut a long story short – and it is truly a long story because it went on for 21 years – a couple of years ago a young colleague in Australia contacted me about the book and said “Where is it? We need it?” I explained the situation and even sent him the draft, and asked whether he thought it was worth writing the missing chapter on digital marketing. He said “yes,” and I cracked the project open again.

Needless to say, the “missing chapter” was actually a missing section and took me a lot longer to write and put together than I was anticipating. Not only that, I essentially had to upgrade the whole manuscript before I felt satisfied …

Neil: And during those 21 years did you learn about digital marketing?

Vivien: Oh yes! It began with social media and specifically Facebook, but it didn’t get serious until we built our CrystalHealingTechniquesdotcom website.
