Working With Yearly & Monthly Crystals
For a number of years now I have chosen a crystal for the year and a different one for each of the 12 months of the year. It’s a crystal healing practice that I recommend to those who want a deeper connection with their crystals and who want to integrate them into their daily life.
Why Work With A Crystal For The Year?
A crystal for the year can support you on your journey through each new year. Each year is a new solar cycle. You could use the Western calendar new year (January 1st) or another date like the Spring Equinox or Chinese New Year for example. Or start any time of the year for the next 12 months.
There are certain qualities that the stone can bring to support you throughout the year. This could be with your self-healing, personal development, mindset or spiritual growth.
Why Work With A Crystal Every Month?
Another way is to work with a different stone for every month of the year (calendar month or lunar month). These are smaller lunar cycles. Arming yourself with a crystal every month allows even more personalisation.
These support stones will assist you for a period of a few weeks in all areas of your life like the yearly one.
Other Benefits of Yearly and Monthly Crystals
Working with a crystal for the year or month helps you integrate crystal energy into your daily life. Over the time you work together, you will bond more with your stone and get to know it. Some people buy crystals and then put them away, soon forgetting about them.
Doing this helps you reconnect with your crystals and lets them actively and gradually help you. It’s also a great way to discover and work with new crystals.
How To Work With These Crystals?
The easiest and best way is to have these crystals on you and within your aura daily. You could wear them in jewellery form or carry them in a small pouch. Polished tumbled stones are ideal for this, won’t chip easily and are more affordable.
With the yearly crystals, you could also add a larger stone or carving to your altar or any place you like to meditate or do yoga at home. Alternatively, you could also place this stone somewhere you will see it every day.
TIP: Build a connection. I highly recommend that you spend time with your chosen stones. Meditate with them, place them on the associated chakra or hold them while doing your affirmations or mantras.
Discover Your Crystal For The Year or Month
There are different ways you could choose your stones for the year or month. You could pick the stone based on the meanings and crystal healing benefits. To do this you would need to have a good idea of what you want help with that year or month.
It’s hard to know what is coming up for us, especially in 6 or 9 months… A more intuitive way might be more effective. This way your higher self and the crystal know what is coming up for you and what you need to work on. Here are a few ways to pick crystals this way:
Pure Intuition
This works best if you are used to choosing crystals intuitively and have a good selection of crystals already. Lay out your crystals or gemstone jewellery. Allow your intuition to guide you to a stone you have or a new one that comes to mind.
See which one draws you for your chosen time period.
Dowsing
This is more advanced and I would only recommend it to you if you already know how to dowse. Dowsing is a skill and isn’t something that I can teach here. This is nice to do with a crystal pendulum.
You could use dowsing chart with crystals on or ask yes or no for crystals that you are considering.
Divination
This is a much easier way and the way I choose my crystal of the year and one for each month. You could get a bag of tumbled stones if you have a good amount and with your eyes closed pick one like a rune stone.
I like to use crystal oracle cards for this. You can use any crystal oracle deck you have or like. I have made my own cards. Shuffle your oracle cards with the intention of finding your support stone for the year or month and record this.
How To Do An Annual Crystal Spread
This is nice to do at the start of the year. Shuffle your crystal oracle cards with intention until you feel it’s time to stop. Pull 13 cards, 12 arranged in a circle from the 1 o’clock position for January or month one.
Lay them in a clockwise circle for each month of the year, 12 being December or the last month. The 13th card goes in the centre. This will be your support stone of the year.
TIP: Note your 13 crystals down in your tarot journal and mark the crystals on your calendar or planner as a reminder.
