404 Error Return With Dr Who Inspired Christmas Single

The Dr Who special.

‘Pyramids of Mars’ is the first single from forthcoming second album Genre Reveal Party.

404 Error hail from Northern England and are a semi-anonymous project led by the artist known as 36663.

Their debut album ‘Scene Killers’ was met to positive acclaim, a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the Goth scene, full of addictive synthpop. Genre Reveal Party shows a much more mature approach to craftmanship.

“The demos for Pyramids of Mars started in 2024. Because of that it is somewhat of a bridge between the two albums. This time there are no references to the Goth scene, it is simply about the Dr Who serial from 1975 starring Tom Baker. So in it’s own way a 50th anniversary.

With there being no Christmas Special for Dr Who until 2026, it seemed the perfect time to release the track and set the ball rolling for the new album.

The digital single is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, and associated retailers. It comes with a virtual ‘B-Side’ – a rework of ‘Please Reply’ from the first album dubbed the “John Lewis Christmas Advert”

36663 explains – “In the UK every year (retailer) John Lewis does a Christmas Advert and it usually involves some miserable slowed down piano version of a classic song. So, ribbing into that we’ve done a piano version of ‘Please Reply’ – cos nothing says Christmas like men sending weird messages to women they don’t know.”
