L’immensa solitudine delle montagne by come le onde – Stationary Travels

The immense solitude of the mountains – rendered in Italian, that is the title of the latest ambient work from Andrea Porcu under his musical nom de plume of come le onde. Always one to blend evocative backdrops and a keen sense of narrative with his highly introspective approach to drone music, Andrea is very much in his element here painting sonic still life images of the mountainous landscapes of the island of Sardinia.

The geographical context of Sardinia isn’t merely a backdrop; it’s a protagonist in my work. Each musical note, every melody in L’immensa solitudine delle montagne, seems to chart a course through its lands, from the mountains to the beaches, from the villages to the coastal cities.

The magic of the album is in the delicate balance it strikes between conveying the immense contours of its subject while and creating an almost somber sense of stillness that the listener can rest in while taking it all in. Imagine standing on a mountainous overlook as the shadow of twilight slowly drapes down from the sky and a hush settles on the horizon, and you get some idea of what the music here evokes.

In addition to digital download & streaming, L’immensa solitudine delle montagne is available from the Oscarson label on CD and limited edition vinyl LP. Note that signed copies of the CD edition may be ordered from Porcu’s own rohs! records Bandcamp page.
