Cassettes are ready…..
and You’re Not has the has a Pittsburgh rare full length vibe but this is all Minot. A debut release of eight selections, Minot is based in Missoula, Montana and includes Flora Holland, Noah Mackinnon and Alex Molica. Songs are upbeat and saturated with fresh harvested melodies. Well written and equally well played, basic ingredients becoming so much more. Listening finds a toe tapping sing along response, with a long duration in the tape deck. The favorite right now is “Hot House” but this has changed as the familiarity settles in with each listen. There is a band from about ten years ago out of Portland that Minot reminds me of. Here is a video for one of their songs. For a debut release, and You’re Not will be a challenge to follow. These songs resonate perfectly, a balance of lo-fi punk with fringe pop, heart felt sonic enthusiasm of pure exuberance.
Not sure what the physical cassette run on And You’re Not is. Copies are available from the bands bandcamp page or from the label Crush Grove Records. And speaking of the the Bloomington, Indiana label…. So many excellent releases, fun great music filled with focused talent and excellent song writing. This debut from Minot is another check plus on the label’s list.
