PiP – l’Esprit de l’Escalier: Melodic Ambience with Organic and Electronic Fusion – Frequency State

PiP’s l’Esprit de l’Escalier is an atmospheric and engaging track that blends delicate melodic elements with flowing rhythmic textures. The track opens with a gentle, arpeggiated melody, accompanied by a subtle, percussive groove that establishes a calming, meditative mood. This combination creates a sense of gentle movement, drawing the listener into a reflective space.

As the track evolves, the focus shifts from electronic textures to a beautiful string arrangement that adds warmth and depth. The rhythmic elements become softer, maintaining a steady pulse while allowing the melodic components to take center stage. This careful balance between electronic and acoustic sounds gives l’Esprit de l’Escalier a unique character, merging the organic and synthetic.

The track is the first piece from an album created by PiP (Pepijn Gyssels) in collaboration with Ambroos De Schepper. The project is built on a foundation of improvisation, with De Schepper contributing freeform performances on clarinet, saxophone, and other wind instruments. These improvisations are then shaped by PiP’s electronic production and field recordings, resulting in a sound that feels both spontaneous and carefully constructed.

Released on ZitStill Records, a small independent label from Brussels, the album aims to create a space for slow listening—an invitation to pause and immerse yourself in sound. The collaboration between PiP and De Schepper highlights the power of listening and interaction, where acoustic improvisation meets electronic soundscapes.
