Thanks for your time today. The latest release is ‘Cursed’. Would you mind giving us some insight into the story or concept behind the EP?
The “Cursed” EP is set to that of a story following a person who has a major life changing event from moving away from a state where they grew up, made friends and made a career over 40 years. They are uprooted from everything they’ve ever known and almost immediately fall into a divorce and losing their 1 year old child in custody. No friends, no family and no escape. While in this state of mind, they are tormented with loneliness, worthlessness and misfortune. All of this leads to this individual feeling cursed.
Are your songs created in pretty much the same way in every case? Do you have to be in particular locations or moods to be inspired?
Some songs start with lyrics, while others start with a beat or melody. I find it best for me to write lyrics when I’m in a very dark and disturbing place in my life. Musically, I can create songs pretty much anytime.
What’s the biggest technical challenge that you’ve had to overcome? That could be anything from a computer crash, “learning curve” or anything like that. How did you overcome it?
Singing! I’ve always been shy when it comes to my voice, which is why I use a lot of samples from movies or shows to replace my singing. However, in the last few months I’ve become a little more comfortable with singing and you can expect to see that more on my future works. I suppose I overcame it a little more once people started listening to my singing on the 2 vocal songs and complimented me.
What do you think is the mark of a good remix from the perspective of both the artist and the remixer?
PASSION! I always allow people to remix my songs however they want… 113%creative freedom. I want the artist to be able to put their flavor and signature on it.
Let’s say many years from now in the future, someone finds one of your albums and something to play it on in an old, locked box. What do you want them to understand about your message or your legacy just by listening to your music?
I want them to understand that there is beauty and happiness in darkness. I want them to dance! Lastly, I want them to feel the emotions.
What do you think has changed for you since your first release on both technical and artistic levels?
I can only compare it to my singles. Cursed is my first EP. I think I have improved as a musical composer/writer. I also find myself fine tuning more into Dark Dramatic Electro, the genre I achieve to accomplish.
Have you ever composed a song that was written from such a painful perspective that you refused to release it?
No, for me it’s quite the opposite. The more painful, sad, depressing and disturbing a song is the better. I want people to feel emotions when listening to my music. I want my music to help people through hard times.
Are most of your lyrics written from a perspective of internal observation or external (i.e. society etc.)?
So far, they have only been internal. However, I might have some external pieces in the works!
Thanks for you time once again. These last words are yours.
Thank you for the interview. The follow up EP to Cursed will be a remixed EP called “Blessed’ and it will be released to the masses on 03.28.25.
Expressing feelings through soundscapes, textures, samples and dramatics… this is Dark Dramatic Electro.
