Travel Back by Susanne Darre – Stationary Travels

What if you could pause time, even for just a moment? That is the question composer and pianist Susanne Darre poses to frame her new EP entitled Travel Back due to be released later this month. Recorded on her Schimmel acoustic piano in a rustic barn nestled in Northern Norway, Darre provides a most eloquent response through a quartet of beautiful solo vignettes that screens off the noise of a madding world and lingers in quiet reflection.

While these piano pieces are the embodiment of intimate music, the back story of this artist reveals a world of influences. Having grown up in a rowing up in a musical household, we are told, Susanne was deeply influenced by her father’s love for music, guitars, and his extensive vinyl collection. Then there are natural elements with which she is surrounded – the Arctic Sea, snow-covered landscapes, the northern lights, and the midnight sun. Finally, she has a love of vintage instruments as well as the depth modern electronics can add to the atmospheres and textures of the sounds she creates. All of these things are manifest in the welcome respite and fleeting beauty of this tidy little gem.

What if you could pause time, even for just a moment?
