British restaurants Amsterdam // Your Little Black Book

The Sunday Roast from England will likely be familiar to you. This tradition has now made its way to our country. Moreover, we see more great British restaurants in Amsterdam – both new and old. William’s Farmhouse has been a hit since its opening, The Cottage has been packed for years, and Greenwoods is an unmissable staple in the city centre—time for the ultimate Little Black Book list of British restaurants in Amsterdam.

4 X the Best British Restaurants in Amsterdam

William’s Farmhouse

William’s Farmhouse is rustic and British, yet located in Amsterdam South. This restaurant is the first farmhouse in Amsterdam to pay tribute to British traditions in this way. The popularity of the English farmhouse had already been evident, thanks to Soho Farmhouse near London – incredibly expensive, yet always fully booked. The British love escaping the city, especially when it involves traditions and great food. That’s precisely the atmosphere William brings to our capital. Of course, they host a Sunday Roast, but you’ll also want to visit on any other day. The chicken pie and ribeye are a delight.

The Cottage

The Cottage remains an absolute favourite. For years, you’ve been able to visit for brunch, lunch, dinner, drinks, and sweet treats anytime. The Cottage brings British cosiness and a certain level of quaint charm to Amsterdam, complete with excellent flavours. At The Cottage, you know that everything served is high quality. Plus, there’s a Sunday Roast every week. Given the small number of tables, this spot is often full, but if you miss out, you can always pop into the deli a few doors down. There, they sell their homemade jam and chutney to take home.

Bar Brother

The idea for Bar Brother was born when two best friends were once mistaken for brothers. Their most substantial connection wasn’t blood but a love for British food. You get it – Bar Brother was inevitable. In Amsterdam West, you’ll find this quintessentially English spot to satisfy all your British cravings, from Sunday Roast to dark beer, Scotch eggs, and chicken pies.

Greenwoods

Greenwoods was founded in 1988, with the Singel as its first location. Although this establishment is as British as it gets (and loved by Brits!), its current owner is Dutch. That hasn’t been a problem, as they have now expanded to Middelburg and Edinburgh. At Greenwoods, you can enjoy an all-day breakfast featuring plenty of British classicsDid you know that Eggs Benedict is a typical British dish? You’ll also find scones, fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs, and a full English breakfast.
