29 X first date in Amsterdam
With these tips the first date is a succes!
Restaurants for a first date in Amsterdam
Turbo Amsterdam
Turbo Amsterdam is a nod to the owners’ favourite car: the Saab Turbo. Unfortunately, it is no longer manufactured, but Turbo Amsterdam is alive and modern. This new spot – a sister venue to Café De Tros, also in Amsterdam-Oost – is a hangout spot where you’ll want to stay all day. Luckily, you can, as they serve coffee, brunch, snacks and dinner. In short, a date that can last all day long.
Reinwardtstraat 1, Amsterdam – turboamsterdam.nl
Eetcafé Edita
Eetcafé Edita Amsterdam had to become a place where you are reminded of beautiful moments with friends (or new love, in this case), preferably during a summer holiday in a Mediterranean area. Think Southern France, a place where summer evenings seem endless. Owner Anna Meyer drew her inspiration from there and opened Eetcafé Edita (Amsterdam-West), named after her grandmother.
Jan van Galenstraat 92H, Amsterdam – eetcafe-edita.nl
Bar Uyt
Bar Uyt is a lovely addition to Amsterdam-West. This spot opened its doors in March 2024, and since then, several events have taken place, creating legendary evenings, perfect for a first date. During King’s Day, for example, there was an all-day brunch with rosé (which we think is worth repeating, even outside the holiday), and regularly, Bar Uyt hosts wine tastings in collaboration with prominent wine importers.
Tweede Kostverlorenkade 70, Amsterdam – baruyt.nl
De Willem
De Willem is an institution in Amsterdam and the surrounding area. This place is cosy and always lively, and the staff make you feel right at home. In addition to an extensive drinks menu, they also serve alcohol-free alternatives. The menu varies, but the brioche with truffle is a staple. If the weather permits, take a seat on the large terrace. Even with just a little sunshine, it’s already delightful here.
Haarlemmerplein 58, Amsterdam – de-willem.nl
Kikkie van de Prinsensluis
Kikkie van de Prinsensluis is a cosy brown café where weekend drinks are in full swing. The menu is simple but just right, and there are plenty of tables where you can retreat during your first date.
Prinsenstraat 30, Amsterdam – kikkie.amsterdam
Enté
You might almost call owners Tim Werners and Natalie Kouwen ‘seasoned experts‘. After a long search, they found the perfect location on the Lindengracht, where Enté Amsterdam is now based. At this ‘nouveau pub‘, they serve a concise menu from noon until midnight, and you can always stop by for a drink at the bar.
Lindengracht 29, Amsterdam – enteamsterdam.nl
Libertine Café
Libertine Café is our favourite all-day spot in De Pijp and at the Noordermarkt. The atmosphere and food are always great. After your meal or drinks, take a stroll along the canals; Amsterdam is incredibly romantic at night!
Noordermarkt 4 & Gerard Douplein 10H, Amsterdam – libertine.amsterdam
Bars for a first date in Amsterdam
Waterkant
Experience a touch of colourful Suriname in Amsterdam at Waterkant. The bar offers a long list of draught and bottled beer, wines, and mixed drinks. This is the perfect spot for after-dinner drinks in Amsterdam.
Marnixstraat 246, Amsterdam – waterkantamsterdam.nl
Taal Coffee
A coffee shop is a great option if you’d rather not go straight to a bar. At Taal Coffee, everything is perfectly curated, from the light green tiles and pink to-go cups to the large windows and sleek tiled floor. They also serve excellent coffee and other unique drinks, which is just an added bonus.

Five Brothers Fat
Whether you want a drink in Oost, West or Zuid, this Champaneria can be found in all these districts. For a moment, you might feel like you’re in a Spanish cava bar sipping your Can Paicano cava.

Thijssen
Fancy more than just a drink? At Café Thijssen, you can test your general knowledge during a Quiz Night. Bring along your date and try to win together. You can also drop by after dinner at the weekend for a late-night drink.
Brouwersgracht 107, Amsterdam – cafethijssen.nl
NO-YUSU
Like Taal Coffee, NO-YUSU isn’t a pub but a coffee shop and a place where extraordinary people gather during the day. Amsterdam-Noord has become home to many trendy speciality coffee spots. NO-YUSU Amsterdam (NO stands for Noord) is one of the latest additions to the list. It’s a welcoming and inclusive place where everyone feels appreciated, and the coffee is always excellent. The staff continually surprises with homemade bakes. Perfect for a casual first date.
Korte Papaverweg 17, Amsterdam – yusu.coffee
Karavaan
Every evening, you can head to Kwakersplein for a nice drink. The music is lively, and you can order a Salted Caramel Espresso Martini, a Bubb Royal Crémant, or a good glass of white wine at the bar. It’s a great place to go after dinner.
Kwakersplein 2, Amsterdam – karavaanamsterdam.nl
Café Twee Prinsen
After Café Binnenvisser in Amsterdam-West and Restaurant Cornerstore in Amsterdam-Noord, the same team opened Café Twee Prinsen in Amsterdam Centrum. It is open seven days a week from drinks until midnight and on weekends for lunch or brunch. From the outside, you can see the friendliness of a modern Amsterdam brown café through the large windows. This is the place for good food and drinks, and in nice weather, the terrace by the canal is perfect for a relaxed first date.
Prinsenstraat 27, Amsterdam Centrum – tweeprinsen.nl
Glouglou
Glouglou is a top spot for a first date in Amsterdam if you enjoy a good glass of wine. Naturally, you can also order matching bites, and you’ll have the rest of De Pijp as your base for later in the evening.
Tweede van der Helststraat 3, Amsterdam – glouglou.nl
R. De Rosa
Plenty of fun evenings are organised at R. De Rosa in the Jordaan. There’s always something happening from Yahtzee to themed nights and neighbourhood gatherings. It’s a cosy spot to enjoy natural wine in the evening, homemade treats, and strong coffee anytime.
Boomstraat 41, Amsterdam – rderosa.bar
Café van Mechelen
Do you both love craft beers? Start your date at Café van Mechelen in Amsterdam Zuid. Here, you can enjoy tasting beers together while sharing a beer platter with cheeses. If the evening goes well, the burgers here are also highly recommended!

Things to do for a first date in Amsterdam
The Movies
The Movies is the oldest cinema still in use in Amsterdam. Opened in 1912 under the name Tavenu, it has long been known by its current name. Expect arthouse films and the latest blockbusters. You can also grab a bite to eat here.
Haarlemmerdijk 161-163, Amsterdam – themovies.nl
Mooie Boules
Want to get hands-on? Then Mooie Boules is the perfect place for you. Rent your own jeu de boules court and enjoy delicious bites and drinks at the food court. It’s a real playground for adults!

This spot is ideal for a first date. Not only can you enjoy a delicious dinner here, but you can also watch a film. This cinema and restaurant is located in Amsterdam Noord – highly recommended!
Aambeeldstraat 24, Amsterdam – fchyena.nl
Pllek
Pllek offers something for everyone. In summer, you can enjoy a beer together on the beach, have a meal in the restaurant, check out the current exhibition, dance the night away at a party, or join a morning yoga session!

(Food) Festivals
Look for upcoming festivals you can attend together. The atmosphere is always fantastic, so you’re guaranteed a great time.
De FilmHallen
The FilmHallen always showcase the latest films and a fine selection of arthouse cinema. Plus, it’s the perfect end to your evening if you’ve dined at the FoodHallen beforehand.
Hannie Dankbaarpassage 12, Amsterdam – filmhallen.nl
Concerts
There are countless concerts every weekend that are also perfect for a first date. Going out will loosen everyone up, so the ice will likely break quickly. Check the Weekend Guide for the best concerts!
Game Halls
You’ll find various game halls in Amsterdam, perfect for a first date! Visit the gaming paradise PONG or the TonTon Club.
Swing at the A’DAM Tower
In my opinion, this is one of the coolest attractions in Amsterdam. The ‘Over The Edge‘ swing at the top of the A’DAM Tower is 100 metres high. Not ideal if you’re afraid of heights! Tip: After swinging, grab a drink or a bite at Skatecafé in Noord – highly recommended!
