By now, Restaurant Sandberg has opened its doors, the second venture from one of the minds behind the successful Restaurant Metro Amsterdam. What the founders do so well at Museumplein is that they have been doing just as well for years in Amsterdam Noord. That’s where Restaurant Metro is located, a lovely spot where you can go all day long.
Atmosphere and Interior at Restaurant Metro Amsterdam
Since its opening, Metro has been a favourite among young and old. It’s a great place to go with family, casually drop in with friends, date, or enjoy a coffee at the bar alone.
This is due to the excellent food and drinks (a bakery is attached) and the cosy atmosphere and unique interior. The blue-green chairs have become unmistakably Metro, just like the further no-fuss design that has been very well thoughRestaurant Metro Amsterdam: one of the favourite all-day spots in Amsterdam North.t out. At Metro, everything works, and despite the size of the space, it feels intimate.
Its success was to be expected with owners who have years of experience in the hospitality industry. The four founders met at Entrepot (Amsterdam Oost), which led to starting a place where breakfast, lunch, and dinner all have a gastronomic touch.

Menu and Dishes at Restaurant Metro
Metro became famous for its ‘pizza fritta’ – deep-fried pizza dough lavishly topped with burrata and sardines. And rightly so, as they have now perfected it to the last detail, you’ll hardly find it anywhere else.
At Metro, it’s all about the exciting snacks. A few top hits: prawn croquetas with pearl barley and lemon mayonnaise, brioche with mushroom and garden cress, and dolma skewers from the BBQ filled with basmati rice, grapes, chestnut, verjus vinaigrette, and walnut. All equally special and delicious.
The dinner menu is concise and ever-changing, but this does not affect the quality. On the contrary, as the menu has fewer options, the quality remains consistently high. A three-course meal costs €38.50, with options for meat, fish, or vegetarian dishes. À la carte is also available. A favourite among regular Metro-goers is the roasted kale with Zeeland steamed oyster and salsify and the côte de boeuf with pepper sauce and garnish.
Do you prefer to visit Metro in the morning? From 10:00 AM, the finest sweet pastries roll out fresh from the in-house oven. Think chocolate chip cookies, miso biscuits, and a homemade doughnut, but the cinnamon bun is one not to miss. Fancy something savoury? Go for the brioche bun with prawn croquette, pearl barley with lemon mayonnaise, or sourdough toastie.
