Instead of focusing only on traffic rules, the new campaign highlights the importance of sharing roads with animals and driving with compassion.
A recent video shared by the Kerala Police has gone viral on social media. It reminds drivers that road safety isn’t just about people. It’s also about protecting the animals that walk on the streets.
Viral dog video
The emotional video tells the story of a mother dog and her puppy walking calmly together down a road. The mother carries a small grocery bag in her mouth, while the puppy walks next to her proudly with a tiny pouch. But the peaceful scene quickly turns tragic.
A speeding car hits the mother, who collapses on the road and dies, with blood visible near her mouth. The puppy is left crying and confused, nudging his mother’s body.
Onlookers begin filming the heartbreaking moment. The puppy then picks up one of their phones, and the screen shows the emergency number “112”, a call to action for people to help animals in distress.
Animal rights groups have joined in applauding the initiative. In a joint statement, Ashar Mehta from PETA India, along with FAAC (Fighting Against Animal Cruelties), Street Dogs of Bombay, and Street Animals of Mumbai, said:
“Kerala Police didn’t just release a safety video. They released a message from the heart. This time, it’s not just about traffic rules. It’s about the tail-wagging, paw-padded lives we share the roads with. With compassion at the wheel, they reminded us that driving safe also means driving kind.”
The Kerala Police are known for their creative and compassionate public awareness campaigns. Over the years, they have used their official social media channels to spread messages about kindness, community values, and safety.
