The young dog was suffering from a terrible condition.
Mange parasites embedded beneath the skin had caused all his fur to fall out and a mind-shattering itchiness. Tanu had perhaps never been touched as a puppy; now, with mange, he was nervous, inward, and almost seemed frightened of himself! He struggled wildly when our rescuer carried him to the ambulance. He would do anything to escape, but if we had accidentally let him go, we might never be able to catch him again. He would die without treatment.
Mange’s agitation and the starvation that usually comes with mange would kill him. When we got to the hospital we muzzled him just to be sure he didn’t snap, but within moments, it seemed that the sight of the other dogs all around, peaceful and happy, reassured him that he was safe, and his bright terrified eyes began to change…Watch Tanu’s transformation–not only a physical change but Tanu’s psychological evolution from feral, deliriously hurting, to — to….well, you’ll soon see!
