Annecy Festival 2025: First Selected Films

35 short films in the official selection of the 2025 Annecy Festival, which is dominated by French (12 films produced or co-produced in France). We see familiar names in the lineup of the prestigious fest. Theodore Ushev returns to Annecy with ‘My Life with an Idiot, a film co-directed with Alexandra Ushev. Accused by the authorities of not working hard enough, Vladimir is forced to live with an idiot as punishment.

Another Oscar-nominated animation artist, Bruno Collet competes with ‘Atomik Tour’, a 12-minute stop-motion exploration of the Chernobyl nuclear accident and its repercussions on a young tourist

More about ‘Atomik Tour’

The 2025 Anima Festival winner ‘Sisowatch Quay’  by  Stéphanie Lansaque & François Leroy, a strange, nightmarish film of an Asian romance, is on board in the official selection. Master Estonian animation director Priit Pärn and Olga Pärn continue their exploration of quirky comedy by moving into Italy with their 33-minute 2D animation ‘Luna Rossa’.

Fadi Syriani is selected in the Perspectives section (17 films selected) with the 16-minute stop-motion  ‘All this death’. An old Beirut resident checks the obituaries page and attends funerals daily. Krste Gospodinovski‘s puppet Macedonian film ‘Silent Cinema’ uses an intergenerational play with cinema at its main center.

9 animation shorts in the Off-Limits festival section and 10 animation films for young audiences in the corresponding section (including the sweet ‘Capybaras’ by Alfredo Soderguit).
