
Coming July 8th, the heart-wrenching Ghibli classic Grave of the Fireflies will be released and distributed via Blu-ray DVDs from GKIDS and Shout! Studios. Both standard and limited edition Steelbook sets will also include feature length and deleted storyboards, interviews, image galleries, and more.
Directed by Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata, based on the real experiences of WWII survivor Nosaka Akiyuki, Grave of the Fireflies captures the horrifying and scarring tragedy of war while still allowing hope to shine through. The film is widely regarded as a stunning work of art, earning its place in the lauded halls of Ghibli.
Synopsis
14-year-old Seita and his little sister Setsuko lose everything after an American air raid destroys their home: Mother included. Just another set of orphans surrounded by ruin, Seita desperately steals food to barely scrape by in an abandoned bomb shelter, caring for his sister, as hope runs thin. What little joy remains of their lives is all the more precious when everything can be torn away in just an instant.
