Anne Shirley Episode 14 – AngryAnimeBitches Anime Blog

This week’s episode was surely a lesson of: “You don’t know what you have ’till it’s gone.”

It began with Anne and Diana running iinto Echoes Lodges after getting lost in the woods trying to meet Kimball for a lunch. There they meet the owner Miss Lavendar Lewis and befriend her, leaving whatever plans with Kimballs’ to be lost in the winds.

Miss Lavendar Lewis is a woman who learned that the hard way how pettiness over a trivial spat resulted breaking an engagement with a love she had since childhood she had with Stephan Irving. She was the one who stubbornly turned him away while he was trying to mend the rift between them, which caused him to just give up and left the island. Honestly I can hardly blame him for it when she was flaunting attention with other men of potential interests, all to stir him up. She knew he was a sensitive and anxious guy, and yet she knowingly and unfairly pushed his heart. After that, the two fell out of touch and never met since.

Now twenty-five years later, thanks to a slip up on Anne’s part and being overly nosy, as luck would have it the two finally reunited. Much of it had to do with Lavendar meeting Paul, Stephan’s son.

When Lavendar mused how she’d like to meet Paul sometime, Anne had agreed she’ll try to bring him along sometime (which initially had me internally screaming: NO ANNE NO!), but both underestimated how much pain it’d bring. It was a bittersweet experience for Lavendar, mainly because not only does Paul resemble his father, but ever single time he brings up his late mother, it wounded her regretful heart of knowing that he had found love elsewhere.

Fortunately things seemed to work out and not blow up in Anne face for an exchange. Thanks to Paul mentioning Lavendar in his letters, Stephan came back to the island and hoped he could meet Lavendar again. The two did and sure enough after one long reunion of regretful parting, they are now engaged and will wed before fall. (Heck we’ll see them wed in next week’s episode!) Whether Paul would accept Lavendar as his mother as opposed to a friend has yet to be seen…. But perhaps he would be more open to it since he has since formed a friendship with her, and she reminds him of his mother. And we did see him promise his mother at her proxy grave that he’ll always love her no matter what.

On the topic of love, this episode also touched on how one’s tastes can or doesn’t change, as Diana’s newest crush Fred Wright is someone a far cry from her original “ideals” (FOR THE BETTER IF I MAY ADD! Remember she was all about “I can fix him” type!). Diana’s been especially curious about how Anne feels about Gilbert since they’ve been hanging together a lot since they’ve agreed to be friends. However Anne doesn’t presently have any feelings towards Gilbert, she still has him in the friend-zone. Like Diana had, she now too has her own ideals for a man: Tall and slender, with dignified features and melancholy, mysterious eyes, and a soft enchanting voice– as one would expect from Anne, it’s quite a romantic and fantastical conditions to fulfill. That said Gilbert does check off at least four of those features…

Next week, well while there will be a wedding, there will also be a lot of tears… Though sadly not all of them will be for joyous reasons… 🙁

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
