Digimon Frontier (Saban) Episode 6: Five Legendary Warriors vs. The New Warrior | Sub/Dub Comparison
Plot: Takuya and the others run into some KaratsukiNumemon who offer them free food if they agree to help them defeat an evil Digimon named Grottomon. He is keeping their daughters captive and won’t release them unless they give him their mountain’s Digicode – but they don’t even know where it is. When they arrive, they see someone else has also been charged with the task – Koji, who was saved by the KaratsukiNumemon earlier.
While Koji doesn’t want their help, he agrees to team up anyway. However, when they reveal to the KaratsukiNumemon that they’re legendary warriors, the tables turn quickly. It seems Grottomon has been claiming he’s a legendary warrior too, and now they believe the kids are in cahoots with Grottomon. Is Grottomon really a legendary warrior? And, if so, can they protect the mountain and save the captive KaratsukiNumemon?

Takuya and Junpei do ask for money, but not as rudely as dub!Takuya and JP who literally go “Yeah, hand it over!”
This one’s kinda weird and a rare paint edit. The sign over the left is painted over to say “Heroes Wanted. All your meals for free.” In the original, when we first see this sign, the shot pans from right to left. In the dub, it pans from left to right. I have no clue why.

I should also mention that, while I’m cool with not painting every other sign in the city over like 4Kids would, why is this one sign in English while everything else is in Japanese?
So….You agree to help these guys, let them put you in a rail cart tethered to a random passing Railmon, and then they spontaneously spring their backstory on you in the very next frame. I can’t tell if this is weird editing or bad writing.
Name Change: Grottomon is changed to Grumblemon.
Izumi asks how a mountain can have a Digicode. Zoe asks why Grumblemon can’t just take the fractal code…..Zoe, you’re a dumbass. You’ve been fighting this whole time to restore the lost fractal codes and prevent them from getting stolen and now you’re all ‘Durr, why not just let him take the code?’
The KaratsukiNumemon originally say their daughters were taken from the village – not all of the women as a whole.
I know the Digital World very rarely makes sense, but why are there random loop-de-loops in the train tracks?
Takuya asks what is up ahead and the KaratsukiNumemon responds that it’s their town. In the dub, he asks how the cart is still on the tracks and the KaratsukiNumemon says he doesn’t think it is.
I love how the dub cuts to commercial immediately after they crash. Like yup, they died. Goodnight, folks!
I am incredibly surprised they left in the exchange about Izumi not wanting to go ahead of Junpei because she’s wearing a skirt and then calling him a pervert and slapping him.
They leave in all that, but they remove the shot of Junpei with a slap mark on his face? I don’t get it.
They edit out Koji hitting Takuya with the stick.
Koji originally says the KaratsukiNumemon don’t need anyone else to help but him. In the dub, he says the other kids won’t be of any help at all. I thought Takuya, at least, earned his respect the last time they met each other.
Tomoki asks Koji why he hit Takuya. He says if he realized they were called to help and were not a threat, he wouldn’t have. Then he tells the kids to just do whatever they want. In the dub, since Koji didn’t hit Takuya, Tommy asks Koji to give them a chance. He asks why he should bother because they’re all too weak to be of any help. Then he says “Can I help it if you’re not up to my level?” I know Koji’s abrasive in both versions, but he’s just a jerk in the dub.
Okay, Saban, make sense of this for me. Izumi’s cabbage thing originally tastes like pizza – one of the most American food stuffs ever. You change that to….steak. That is also, admittedly, American-friendly, but uh….why the change at all?
Junpei’s is a little more understandable. His originally tastes like curry, while JP’s tastes like chicken.
Tomoki’s originally tastes like beef. In the dub, it’s a potato. I don’t get this one both for the odd pointless change and….maybe have him say a baked potato or mashed potatoes or something? Just saying it tastes like a potato makes it seem like that would taste awful.
The subs didn’t catch what Takuya said in the original and I can’t understand, but the dub has him saying it tastes like asparagus…..No offense to people who like asparagus, but I seriously doubt with all my heart that original Takuya was excited to get a food item that tastes like asparagus.
They digitally paint the top part of the map to say ‘Map of our town.’ I’m fine with this, but it’s really pointless.

How did they all get tied up, by snails no less, dragged and thrown over a cliff without a single one of them waking up?
Koji, I know you were trying to be all cool, but bullshit did you manage to time that swing and aim well enough to hit the rope with the falling knife. Also, I doubt it’d have the force to slice through your bindings. It was a really tiny knife.
For some reason, they replay the footage of Koji’s Spirit Evolution from a few episodes back in the dub. I guess because it fit well since both scenes involve him evolving while falling? Still pointless, though.
In the dub, they make the mash-up Spirit Evolution scenes slightly longer.
Attack Name Change: Lightning Topper is changed to Lightning Blitz.
They remove Agnimon getting beat by the hammer over and over.
They’re even able to remove the half-second shot of it right before Beetlemon grabs Agnimon. It’s really not that graphic, guys. He’s not even really yelling in pain.
The evolution in the original is called Slide Evolution. In the dub, it’s the same Spirit Evolution.
Attack Name Change: Hurricane Bomber is changed to Quagmire Twister.
Even though it was alluded to in his Spirit Evolution sequence, I never knew Chakmon could literally turn into various forms of ice. That’s awesome! I hope that’s well-utilized in the future.
How are Beetlemon and Fairymon falling when they can fly?
They cut out the final faraway shot of the missing mountain.

This episode was pretty alright. It’s extremely fillery for the first 15 minutes or so, but Grottomon actually turns out to be a threat, evolves, and eats a damn mountain. He’s not really that threatening, especially his dub counterpart who is damn near annoyingly dumb sounding, but his presence indicates a bigger threat that I assume will become a major antagonist, Cherubimon, in the future.
It even fared pretty well in the SDC department. I haven’t had to note much at all.
Next time, deja vu! Tomoki gets kidnapped in a Toy Town and Koji and Takuya argue while trying to save him. Just glancing at the preview is giving me major callbacks to TK and the Puppetmon episode.
